From December to March, the Kaskazi blows south from the Arabian Peninsula across the Indian Ocean, carrying dhows laden with dates, silk, and porcelain to the shores of East Africa. It is the wind that made Zanzibar, that built Lamu, that connected three continents for two millennia.
